WHAT IS DIVERSE LITERATURE?
-Literature that represents all different students -Various ethnicities, races, genders, sexualities, socio-economic statuses, religions, disabilities, and cultures -Students should be represented in the literature they read -Students should also be exposed to unfamiliar cultures that normalizes being different -Multicultural = author and characters represent the same underrepresented group -No stereotypical stories -Some of these stories may be based on historical events -However, it is extremely important that these books do not only associate underrepresented groups in a light that oppresses them |
